This is what is under my sink....
nothing. I have thought about putting a rolling something under there but I haven't gone to the store to get one. I have also thought about putting shelves under there, hmmm still thinking about it.
Instead I put everything and I mean whatever, in the bathroom closet (formally known as the linen closet). Not towels, why? because it STINKS in there, like ummm oldness.
Here is what it looks like...
As you can see I am using this space wisely. My blow dryer takes up one whole shelf.
This is going to be a project. First I had to remove this UGLY contact paper that has probably been on these shelves for 5o years!
Here I am painfully scraping it off of 5 shelves...piece by piece...after two shelves I swore and decided I didn't need a bathroom closet!
After 4 hours I came to my senses and finished scraaaaaaaaaping away. I hate scrapping.
(Sorry about the blurry pictures but apparently my husband does not know how to use our camera that he has been using for the last three years)
The next day it was off to the hardware store. I bought primer that gets rid of odors. Oldness odor be GONE!
I brought out my spray gun and went down to the dungeon (it's really scary down there @ night, I have to turn on every light and walk on my tip toes). I sprayed my shelves and I let them dry overnight.
We made a family trip to IKEA. We ate cinnamon rolls and I found containers for the shelves. The solid big green containers were 6.oo for two and only 5.oo for the two smaller ones. I found the patterned containers @ Marshalls.
and after ALL that... I have a bathroom closet (that smell like Lever 2ooo- and Irish Spring, second to last shelf).
As soon as I get around to doing the laundry, I will have to make room for more towels...but the laundry is in the dungeon (where it is scary).

Oh wow! What a transformation! I hate scraping, too. :)
ReplyDeletelooks great! I just did our bathroom closet recently, too. Yours looks to be the same size as ours!
ReplyDeletewow looks awesome!!
ReplyDeleteI think that's the most effort I've seen yet. Painting! Your closet looks fabulous.
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful! If you needed space under your sink, you could do a cute fabric "skirt" around it and hide your stuff under there. You don't even have to sew...I've seen people attach velcro and stick it on the sink and stick it to your fabric or curtain.
ReplyDeleteLooks nice! I love green and white, so fresh.
ReplyDeleteSo funny, I recognize that old shelf paper! We have the exact stuff in the linen closet of our rental house. Your re-do looks great, I love it!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing, Karen! The transformation of your bathroom closet is so simple yet it somehow changed the whole atmosphere of the entire room. I think it is best to leave that space under your sink alone if it stinks there. Or, if you really want to use that space, I suggest you check up on the drain. It might be the one causing the smell.
ReplyDeleteNow that’s what you call a transformation! I think your idea of putting some shelves under the sink is a good idea. That would give you more space in the bathroom and make it easier for you to reach out to the things you might need while you’re in there. It’s also a good way to organize your items, from your essentials to your cleaning agents. I like what you did to your bathroom drawer too! Talk about being resourceful and creative!
ReplyDeleteHmm..what does it smell like? If it stinks, then you must have mildew thriving in there. They grow in the grout beneath the tiles if they are in contact in water for a prolonged period of time. Mildew or molds give out a musky odor. If you have confirmed that it is neither, then have your place checked out, but I really suspect mildew.
