Get Your Protein On!

Summer is in the air and we are grilling tonight! We are having turkey burgers, zucchini, and home made french fries. Here is why I like turkey:

Did you know that turkey is packed with protein? In fact it has about 32g in a 4oz serving, oh say... the size of a turkey burger.

How about those daily vitamins? It has the recommended allowance of B3, which by the way,  plays a critical role in the processing of fats in the body.  Lets add B6 to that which helps maintain steady blood sugar levels. Turkey it's the meat that keeps on giving!

How about less saturated fat and it contains trace minerals thought to aid in cancer prevention. Turkey contains selenium, which is essential for the healthy function of the thyroid and immune system (I got hooked on it after I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism). Selenium also has an essential role to play in your antioxidant defense system, helping to eliminate cancer-friendly free radicals in the body.

Now that you know how beneficial it is to your body you should try my husband's turkey burger recipe. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE who has ever tried his turkey burgers always asks for the recipe!

Enjoy

A pound of of turkey meat- I always look for the organic stuff.
2/3 Vidalia or sweet onions
1/3 cup feta cheese
1 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil plus additional for brushing
1 small garlic clove pressed
1/2 fresh rosemary
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Buns- I always use pretzel buns

Mix the meat, feta, onion, olive oil, garlic, rosemary, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
Make them into 4 patties
Brush oil olive on the patties and sprinkle with salt and pepper

Grill burgers until charred on both sides and cooked through, about 5 minutes on each side.
Toast your buns and add you topping. I like to add feta to the top of my burger!

  1. Karen, re: my summer head scarf, I used super soft yarn but it doesn't fit on my head and I have tons of hair...so couldn't tell you if it gets warm. It is quite airy - not closely crocheted at all, so I think it would get quite a bit air and not get too warm. Hard to tell though. If you try it, let me know!
