I hope everyone had a great fourth of July! We went to my husband's extended family get together. They have a few strong fourth of July traditions. We start with a smorgasbord of appetizers. The kids swim, we eat the traditional fourth of July favorites on the grill- hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, chicken and then the games begin!
My favorite is to watch the cherry pit spitting contest.
The rules are: eat a cherry
stand on the sidewalk behind the line
SPIT the pit!
There is tons of technique that goes into winning this contest. This is a game of strategy and endurance.
Some contestants need to stretch before they spit
Others need a running start.
And a few use their arms for momentum.
But in the end everyone is a winner. Some just get to take home this amazing metal (minus a few cherry pits)!
This years first place winner spit an astonishing 43 feet! Nice Honey!
The kids 1st place winner spit 25 feet!
Past fourth of July activities included riding a go-cart around the block, pinatas, swinging on a tire, the bean bag tournament, and shooting off all the fireworks off in the park that Uncle George confiscated (official police business, of course).
Notice to the right who is wearing their cherry pit spit metal.
